Our Creed

Defenders of Cuban Socialism Facebook Group

Rooted in the theory and practice of the Cuban Revolution, we affirm the following principles, concepts, and priorities:

(1)  We believe in the right of the people and government of Cuba to construct socialism, in accordance with the principle of the sovereignty of nations;

(2)  We accept the National Assembly of People’s Power, elected directly and indirectly by the people, as the highest authority in Cuba, including the authority to enact legislation and elect the executive and judicial branches of government;

(3)  We recognize Miguel Díaz-Canel, elected by the National Assembly of People’s Power to the position of President of the Republic of Cuba, as the legitimate leader of the people of Cuba;

(4)  We accept the People’s Supreme Court, elected by the National Assembly of People’s Power, as the highest and legitimate judicial authority in Cuba;

(5)  We affirm the legitimate role of the Communist Party of Cuba as a vanguard political party that educates and guides the Cuban people;

(6)  We recognize Raúl Castro as the leader of the Cuban Revolution;

(7)  We recognize Fidel Castro as the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution;

(8)  We believe in the right of Cuba to develop a socialist economy in accordance with Cuban conditions and the needs of the Cuban nation and people, which at the present time is characterized by small and medium private enterprise and space for foreign capital, regulated and directed by the state;

(9)  We recognize the right of Cuba to develop state ownership of the media of communication, establishing the will of the people, rather than profit, as the ultimate authority over the media;

(10)  We appreciate the significant gains of Cuba with respect to education, health, science, and sport;

(11)  We affirm the right of the peoples and states of China, Vietnam, Venezuela, Nicaragua, and Bolivia to construct socialism, in accordance with the fundamental principles of Cuban foreign policy;

(12)  We appreciate the positive role of China, Vietnam, Venezuela, Nicaragua, and Bolivia in seeking to develop mutually beneficial trade among nations, as recognized in Cuba foreign policy;

(13)  We affirm the principle of the sovereignty of nations, and we reject the imperialist policies of the USA and the European ex-colonial powers with respect to Cuba and other nations of the Third World;

(14)  We affirm the principles of the UN Charter of 1945; the UN Universal Declaration of Human Rights of 1948; the 1955 declaration of Bandung; the Declaration on a New International Economic Order by the UN General Assembly in 1974; and the declarations of the Non-Aligned Movement from 1961 to 2019.

(15)  We reject terrorism in all its manifestations, including terrorism against Cuba; and we reject the U.S. “war on terrorism” as a pretext for interventionism.

(16)  We call upon the United States to cease and desist in its financing of social media campaigns with the intention of creating destabilization in Cuba, which constitutes an intrusion in the internal affairs of Cuba, in violation of the principle of the sovereignty of nations;

(17)  We call upon the United States to end its blocking of Cuban financial and commercial transactions with companies and banks of third countries, which violates the sovereignty of said nations;

(18)  We call upon the United States to exempt all transactions related to health and medicine from any restrictions on trade with Cuba, in accordance with elementary humanitarian and ethical principles, not only with respect to the people of Cuba but with respect to all peoples who would benefit from relations with Cuba in the area of health; and

(19)  We demand that the government of the United States decide in a democratic manner if it ought to permit trade with and/or travel to Cuba, on the basis of a full and informed nation-wide discussion of the actual characteristics of people’s democracy and socialism in Cuba.
